What to fish for in Cyprus, month by month

Cyprus fishes all year, but not the same way all year. Matching the method to the month is the cheapest upgrade available to any angler here — no new tackle required.
Winter: December to February
Cooler, clearer water and almost no crowds. This is the peak of the squid season and a genuinely good period for sea bream and sea bass on light gear.
Pelagic action drops off, so put the heavy jigging rod away and enjoy the light stuff. Storms come through from the west, so keep an east-coast mark in reserve.

Spring: March to May
The water warms and the fishing broadens. Bonito and barracuda start showing, squid remain catchable early in the period, and the first amberjack turn up on deeper marks.
This is the best time of year to try a new mark — conditions are workable and the fish are spread out.

Summer: June to August
The pelagic peak, but only at the edges of the day. Fish the hour either side of sunrise, the last light of evening, and after dark. Midday sessions are hot, bright and largely pointless.
Offshore, this is the strongest period for trolling and boat jigging.

Autumn: September to November
The best all-round window of the Cyprus year. Water is still warm, the pelagics are feeding hard before the cool-down, and the squid start returning towards the end of the period.
If you only fish seriously for three months a year, make it these three.

Two rods cover the entire Cyprus calendar: a 30–80 g shore jigging setup and a light 6–20 g rod that doubles for eging and light game. Everything else is refinement.
