What reel do I need for shore jigging in Cyprus?
Shore jigging punishes reels. Salt spray, constant retrieve load and fish that dive into structure mean drag quality and sealing matter far more than weight or bearing count.
What to look for
- Size
- 5000–8000 for shore jigging; 3000–4000 for lighter spinning.
- Drag
- Look for 10 kg+ of usable drag, not just a headline maximum.
- Sealing
- Cyprus rock fishing means spray on every session — sealed body and roller.
- Capacity
- Enough for 200 m+ of PE 2–3 so a running fish never reaches the spool.

- Spinning or overhead?
- Spinning, for shore work. Overhead reels belong on the boat for vertical jigging.
- How often should I rinse it?
- After every session, with a light spray of fresh water — never a pressure hose.
